Laine Knaub
Description
Laine Beachley Knaub was once a vivacious kid who loved to climb trees and pop bubble wrap (that her parents used to hide in a kitchen step.) At eight years old, and at her grandmother’s request, she went a neighbor’s home for weekly piano lessons in Johnsville, Maryland. After a questionable two or three months and a couple memorable, inspiring pieces, it quickly became a lifelong love of music.
Receiving full scholarships from Towson University and Hood College, Laine decided to stay in-state and completed her dual Bachelor’s degrees in Music and Art from Hood College in 2005. Three days after graduating, Laine moved to York and immediately began teaching lessons out of her living room and at the Menchey Music location in Hanover, where brown carpet might still be sound proofing the walls. In the Fall of 2005, Laine spent the next six years commuting from York to Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia for graduate studies in Piano Pedagogy. By 2011, Laine made the difficult decision to leave a near completed Master’s degree to give more attention to her several teaching and church positions.
Today, Laine is a piano instructor and a piano accompanist at both Hood College and York College, and holds Music Director positions at Hayshire United Church of Christ and Zion Lutheran Church. She continues to accompany at other venues on occasion in the York and Frederick areas, participates in local performance and adjudication festivals, and performs on the occasional recital or concert. She is active on the board of the York Music Teachers Association.
Laine has an amazing husband, two kids, and two cats at home. She loves movie and date nights, spontaneous spells of sewing and crafting, and teaching her oldest the difference between a white key and a black key (for starters!)
